**Can you really place beauty to numbers?**

**As a girl with a mathematical edge, studying Calculus in high school, I want to introduce you to the Golden Ratio because studies of top models have shown that they have countless numbers of this ratio in their faces.**

**What is this ratio? Well to be exact it is 1.6180339.... and you can find it by specific measurements in your face. Here is my own face rank based on the Golden Ratio:**

If you follow my blog then you know that I not only like to give you the secrets of beauty but I like to explain the science behind why it works and makes sense. This isn't new, the ratio was used in the Great Pyramids over 4600 years old, but I do break it down in chapter 4 of my book,

*.*

**Face This: Real Advice from Real Models, Photographers and Makeup Artists**This number, universally recognized as ideal, is usually rounded to 1.62. It is also known as phi (Φ) in Geometry, Fibonacci numbers in India, feng shui in Asia, and divine proportion. This ratio 1:1.62 is nature's symmetry and occurs naturally in life. Da Vinci himself used it when he drew the perfect human male body in his famous work the Virtruvian Man. The premise behind this is that the closer a face or object is to the golden number 1.62, the more beautiful it becomes.

### Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder

**Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but according to a study from the University of Nebraska, a smaller nose and chin, along with a larger distance between the eyes and a smaller mouth width are deemed desirable traits for women. F**

**emales were proven to be seen as the fairer sex, rated more attractive by both men and women.**

With the math behind it, the symmetry of your face can be measured. The closer this number is to 1.62, the more beautiful it is judged to be subconsciously. The simplest measurement is the length of your face divided by the widest part of your face. There are countless ratios that can be derived, but the web site above will generate a computer calculation online of a few of these ratios, from your uploaded photo for free, and give you some feedback. You might also decide to use this site if you are trying to select the best image from a recent photo shoot to use as your new profile picture!

**Do It Yourself Version using a few more calculations:**

**Now, find the ratios. 1.62 is golden.**

### Using the Golden Ratio in Dentistry

When the 2 front teeth form a rectangle with a Golden Ratio measurement (height to width of the center 2 teeth of 1.62) it is perceived as a perfect smile. Another ratio used is from the width of the first tooth to the second tooth and a third using the width of the smile to the third tooth from the center. Visit the site of Dr Eddy Levin for more on the Golden Section and Dentistry.

**The Mask of Divine Proportion**

Dr Stephen Marquartdt developed a facial mask as a measurement of classic beauty to help plastic surgeons align facial features for more symmetrical accuracy based on a series of rectangles, triangles and decagons.

From Queen Nefertiti in 1350 BC to Angelina Jolie today, you can see for yourself that they both share similar facial proportions conforming to this beauty mask. I guess that beauty may be timeless after all ... or maybe it explains the countless number of plastic surgery clones. You Decide.

DeleteGreat site Dr Levin!!!

ReplyDeleteFacial surgery is one of way to provide well cosmetic treatment. It for far time that make effective changes. Information make it excellence.

ReplyDeleteThe True Beauty reality show does this examination! I remember it was one of the tests done in the first episode. Some people just don't know it, but science can measure beauty. However, the results would depend on how a person and everybody else around would perceive it.

ReplyDeleteIn my book you my dear are a 10!

ReplyDeleteSuch a big factor to them. Thank you for proving substantial info.

ReplyDeletei am 8.86 :O :P

ReplyDeleteI am 10!

Deleteno your not its not possible

Deletehmmmmmmm interesting i got a 9.7, ive been told i was a pretty boy a lot before. this confirms it i guess ahahaha, good genes wohoooo xD. Shelley me and you maybe need to make love and produce a few gorgeous babies O:)

ReplyDeleteSomething suspicious about the fact that most people of non-Caucasian descent wouldn't fit that mask, isn't there?

ReplyDeletethat is what i thought!

DeleteActually it does. They just didn't include any pictures. People are beautiful regardless of "ethnicity". This also goes for ugly.

DeleteThis is a very dry examination of mathematical constants in nature as applied to the face. Any classically trained artist would recognize that beaty is not sheerly relegated to mathematical ratios. Hunams intrinsically recognize patterns in nature (including on the body) and there are many ratios that make things orderly and beautiful. But somehow drawing closer to this "perfect ratio" does not make a person more beautiful, the closer they are to those ratios. And this can be verified by the countless beautiful persons who violate these ratios. I hope women, or men for that matter don't walk away with the impression that the further you are from these ratios the less likely you are to be beautiful.

ReplyDeleteAll people adhere to a physical kind of geometry, after all God is perfect in order and Man was made in his image. But God is also a master artist, and as master artist he knows the range he can work with, and He is not a slave to math, rather math and geometry is his bondservant.

Really? You genuinely believe GOD made us? Hahahahaaa

DeleteI do. And so do millions who believe that its a lot easier to believe in the existence of God than to believe that chance and probability brought about the entire universe in perfect harmony as we see it today. U need a LOT more faith to believe that you could put all the parts of a machine in a mixer n then shake it until it becomes the complete entity that it is intended to b on its own ! Kudos 2 ur faith Bro Craig! :)

DeleteJesus invented butt sex.

DeleteWOW! I'm a 9.97! hahaha I feel awesome! =D

ReplyDeleteGoing to change my name to pretty woman! xD lol

Your number is more like a 1.42 still not bad.. you have to divide this number by 7 idiot! :P

Deletehahaha! I got 9.9! I don't think i believe it though ;P

ReplyDelete8.75 for me !

ReplyDeleteTHANKS!

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! I watched a documentary that included this topic last night and ever since I have been wonder what my score would be. It turns out I'm an 8.19. I'm a lot better looking than I thought I was!!! :)

ReplyDeletehey..the ratios should add upto 11.34 insterad of 10 right??

ReplyDeletebcoz 1.62*7=11.34 .Mine is 9.6 but my ratios are btw 1.62 to 1.3??

I am totally confused...I think I am an average guy

OMG!!! I did this with a few friends and I was the SEXIEST!!! 9.76

ReplyDeleteAw I can't upload a pic for some reason! ): But how do you calculate the final outcome with the DIY version? I dunno tho, I have ratios closer to 1.62 than someone else I know, and she's considered to be extremely beautiful...

ReplyDeleteI got a 10 but to me in pictures my face looks very assymetrical! help me someone ???

ReplyDeleteIt depends on the lens and angles.

DeleteThe perfect face golden ratio beauty given here is superb. Read the post to get details

ReplyDelete9.11 :D :D

ReplyDeleteThis article has guide about golden ratio beauty and in agree with majority of information which is quite easy to understand. This post is really very interesting.

ReplyDeleteThis article is interesting from a scientific point of view that science can measure the skin, its amazing.

ReplyDeletePerfect face Golden ratio beauty is shared on the post here. Know details from here

ReplyDeleteWow, I got a 5.9 so this means I am really ugly...

ReplyDeleteNo way! This just means the photo you loaded didn't correspond to this ratio. This is only one way of measuring beauty!

DeleteHow to get this golden ratio on my face? Please tell

ReplyDeleteStunning. How is this possible? How long will it take for me to get tht beauty?

ReplyDeleteYet if you upload a picture of johnny depp or brad pitt you get roughly 7.5. Funny..

ReplyDeleteHow did Angelina Jolie only get 8?!!?

ReplyDelete9.45....I don't quite believe it though. I'm probably actually a 7. Most people would say I'm "socially acceptable"

ReplyDeletetwitter @TheMissesHelp

7.8 on anaface. Huh.

DeleteHow to calculate h if you are bald like me, that is, when there is no hairline?

ReplyDeleteHey, mine added up to 10.53, what did I do wrong?

ReplyDeletesame!

DeleteI got 9.13 after very much adjusting but I still feel super insecure now because of all the things they said were wrong with my face...

ReplyDeleteIk I got a 8.05 but im still like :(....

DeleteWhy not automate your form? I don't have a mirror and ruler handy to check (How should we measure top of head to eye, anyway?), but running this in your browser's F12 console should give you your score without legal issues:

ReplyDeleteins = document.getElementsByTagName("input")

a = ins[0].value

b = ins[1].value

c = ins[2].value

d = ins[3].value

e = ins[4].value

f = ins[5].value

g = ins[6].value

h = ins[7].value

i = ins[8].value

j = ins[9].value

k = ins[10].value

l = ins[11].value

abs = Math.abs

gr = 1.6180339

score = 10-abs(gr-a/g)-abs(gr-b/d)-abs(gr-i/j)-abs(gr-i/c)-abs(gr-e/l)-abs(gr-f/h)-abs(gr-k/e)

score

7.44, pretty happy with that :)

ReplyDeleteI was a 7.89 but I am pretty happy with that! I have always considered myself to be pretty average as far s looks go so I guess I was right all along!

ReplyDeletemy girlfriend is a 5.98 I happy now cause its better than the last one that was 4.88

ReplyDeleteI got a 10.065... does that mean I'm beautiful???

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a topic that's close to me so Im happy that you wrote about it. I'm also happy that you did the subject some justice. Not only do you know a great deal about it,

ReplyDeletePlease forgive me for saying, but this software is NOT accurate. Nefertiti and Aishwarya Rai did not get as high as marks of some of you on this site. Those are faces that are far above average in look. Nefertit=7.6 Aishwarya Rai=8.76. It is fine to have fun with, but keep in mind if you rank a 9, that does not necessarily mean you are beautiful.

ReplyDeleteBTW, I put a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker and she ranked higher than Nefertiti. That is not possible at all.

I received 8.58. I think part of it is the fact that you have to be PINPOINT accurate on where you placed the dots. That, and whenever I take a photo, I have a habit of trying to adjust my face so much it looks pretty bad. When I switched the photo out for something I didn't do/my friend took and gave to me, I scored higher. Nonetheless, happy with what I scored!

ReplyDeleteI actually tested Angelina Jolies face and she DOES NOT have a golden ratio.

ReplyDeletei score 10.42 is that possible or i did something wrong

ReplyDeleteThis doesn't measure a person's facial beauty. It just measures the facial ratios from one angle of a person's face - and a face can be looked at from hundreds of angles. For example, noses look longer from a higher angle and shorter from a lower angle. Don't like the length of your nose? Change the angle the photo is being taken from. Etcetera.

ReplyDeletei guess i dont have this ratio

ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning my name. See my website www.goldenmeangauge.co.uk. The site shows, amongst numerous other examples, a simple gauge which gives a very easy assesment of all the relevant landmarks to optimise your good looks.

ReplyDeletei got 10.5 ...what does that mean? can anyone please give details on the calculations?

ReplyDeleteyeah right

Deletefirst add all the results and then divide by 7 to get the desired result. :)

DeleteIt important to remember that this ratio only uses symmetry. There are other things that affect beauty that the golden ratio doesn't take into account like hair color, hair style, eye color, skin tone, and if there are imperfections (scars, acne, etc.).

ReplyDeleteThis is immensely stupid. If you look for any ratio in nature, you will find a lot of examples of it. Google "golden ratio myths" sometime and you'll see. And hs calculus obviously makes you a math expert.

ReplyDeleteIt says my nose is too wide for my mouth. So should I widen my mouth or narrow my nose? Kkk

ReplyDeletei used grace kelly, arguably one of the most beautiful women ever, and her score was lower than my photo. seems suspicious to me. i am not ugly, but i would expect gk to score much higher than i did. much higher than a little over an 8.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to thank you for this great article. I enjoyed every single part of it and I will be waiting for the new updates.

ReplyDeletedivine mask is wrong I just calculated all the ratios and they aren't 1.62 at least according to your ratios. Also how is i/c accurate ? I just drew it out.. Makes no sense

ReplyDeleteI'm 8,79 :)

ReplyDeleteThat's close enough for me :D

My closest to the golden ratio was around the lips and chin area.

On pictures is that part never fucked up :D

you guys are such f**kin' liars! Your high score is bullsh**

ReplyDeleteI am a 7.25. I guess that's not very good :(

ReplyDelete7.97....But against all the people with 8.blah and 9.blah...that's pretty average, so it's fairly accurate. Anyone wanna join a 'Your ears are too long for your face >:O!" party? whoop!

ReplyDeletei got 1.6071428571 after i added up all the numbers and divided them buy seven did i do it right??????

ReplyDeleteyes exactly...

Delete1.48 is the ratio.

ReplyDeleteI did it 3 times and my scores ranged from 8.63 - 8.92 and I've never really considered myself good-looking or even average? So idk if this is accurate, I guess its personal opinion more than mathematics :)

ReplyDeleteI actually got a 9.20

ReplyDelete9.54

ReplyDeleteI'm a 9.7 so guess that's pretty good.

ReplyDeletezayn malik's face is scientifically perfect. google it.
